Project type: Theory

The physical processes involved in the interaction of electromagnetic radiation fields with various types of matter covers an extremely broad range of phenomena, particularly when the interaction is nonlinear. The nonlinear electro-physics areas considered in this project include:

  • plasma physics,
  • laser-matter interaction and
  • optics.

Undergraduates working on these kinds of projects will gain skills in areas such as asymptotic analysis and numerical simulation.

TREND participants in this project will analyze novel and advanced concepts in one of the following areas: a) electromagnetic radiation sources, b) optical detection of chemical/biological agents, c) electron beam dynamics and d) electron/proton acceleration sources.

The goal of this project is to perform theoretical and computational research with the expectation of producing a referred journal publication.
